Mercedes McCreary and her staff make 4,200 enchiladas and 2,500 tacos to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy, a cause that McCreary saw the effects of first-hand. McCreary’s best friend’s son, Michael Day, told McCreary he hoped a cure would be found before he died. But he died in 2003 at age 21 from the disease. After he died, McCreary starting selling enchiladas and tacos to raise money to help find a cure. This year, the restaurant raised $6,500 for Muscular Dystrophy research. The restaurant also donates money to Little League wrestling and the Relay for Life, among other charities.
