Although Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans more than two years ago, the rebuilding process continues today. Restaurant August has been volunteering with Katrina relief efforts since the day after the hurricane, feeding refugees, Red Cross doctors and nurses, and New Orleans Police officers. Later, Restaurant August helped rebuild two minority-owned restaurants in the historic Treme neighborhood by feeding volunteers who worked on the 18-month-long renovation project. The restaurant solicited the services of the Southern Foodways Alliance and companies like Viking Range to help with the rebuilding efforts.
